For example, one summer we kept smelling a terrible odor in our basement den. I cleaned and cleaned, but the odor would not go away. We sniffed and sniffed and tried to find what the odor was coming from. Finally, my husband decided that it wasn't really in the house, but that it was coming from the air conditioning vents. He opened them up to clean them out and found a dead rat in there! As it was decomposing, it smelled. Every time the air came on, it spread the smell through the house. It was really icky, but after that the smell went away! Oh, my.
